The Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (BNRA) and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) are organizing in coordination a regional training course on Westinghouse AP1000 reactor technology in Sofia from 7 to 16 April. This is the first such training to be offered in Europe. The course will be led by instructors from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Technical Training Center. 30 experts from the nuclear regulators of Bulgaria, Ukraine, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden are participating in the training course.
The regional course was opened by the Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency, Mr. Tsanko Bachiiski, the Chargé d’affaires of the US Embassy in Bulgaria, Ms. Susan Falatko and the USNRC Chairman, Mr. David A. Wright, who welcomed participants virtually.
The course is part of the support that the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission provides to the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency for building appropriate administrative and technical capacity to meet the challenges related to the development of Bulgaria’s nuclear program.
