WENRA (Western European Nuclear Regulators’ Association)

WENRA is an independent organization with members the Chairmans of the nuclear safety regulators of the EU Member states with nuclear power plants (under construction, operation or decommissioning), plus United Kingdom, Switzerland and Ukraine. WENRA’s mission is to harmonize and continuously improve nuclear safety by maintaining up-to-date safety reference levels, harmonizing national regulations and regularly evaluating their application in activities and facilities. BNRA has been a member of WENRA since March 2003. WENRA has three permanent working groups:
  • Reactor Harmonization Working Group (RHWG);
  • Working Group on Waste and Decommissioning (WGWD);
  • Working Group on Research Reactors (WGRR).
The Nuclear Regulatory Agency is represented in the Reactor Harmonization Working Group and the Working Group for Waste and Decommissioning.
